🗞️What’s Trending In AI?
🗞️Scientists turn to biocomputing in bid to create energy-efficient AI
Scientists are exploring biocomputing by using human brain organoids to create "living computers". Swiss company FinalSpark has developed a "Neuroplatform" using brain organoids for more energy-efficient AI, available for rent at $500/month for scientists.
Organoids are trained with dopamine and electrical stimulation, mimicking learning processes in human brains.
Challenges include limited organoid lifespans of 100 days and the lack of standardized manufacturing.

🗞️Microsoft releases new Phi 3.5 open-source language and vision models
Microsoft has released three new open-source AI models in its Phi series:
Mini-instruct: with 3.8 billion parameters, is optimized for low-resource environments.
MoE-instruct: has 16 experts, each with 3.8 billion parameters, for a total of 60.8 billion, performs well on language comprehension and math, and outperforms some in reasoning tasks.
Vision-instruct: a multimodal system with 4.2 billion parameters, can process text and images. It's suitable for tasks such as image understanding, OCR, and diagram understanding.
These models excel at LLM reasoning and support multiple languages, but have limitations in factual knowledge and safety.
🗞️AI21 debuts Jamba 1.5, boosting hybrid SSM transformer model to enable agentic AI
AI21 Labs has introduced Jamba 1.5, an advanced AI model combining hybrid state-space models (SSM) with transformer architecture. This development aims to enhance "agentic AI," enabling more autonomous and context-aware systems.
Jamba 1.5 Mini and Large introduce a number of new features designed to meet the evolving needs of AI developers:
JSON mode for structured data handling
Citations for enhanced accountability
Document API for improved context management
Function calling capabilities
🗞️ETH Zurich and Disney developed an AI system for enhancing humanoid robot movement and giving it the ability to dance
A new paper by Disney Research introduces a 2-stage technique for motion tracking in physics-based character animation, using a pre-trained latent space and RL to control diverse and unseen motions on both virtual and real-world humanoid robots.
🗞️Ideogram 2.0: most advanced text-to-image model
Ideogram 2.0, most advanced text-to-image model, now available to all users for free. Also includes the release of the Ideogram iOS app, the beta version of the Ideogram API, and Ideogram Search.
